Travel guide East Frisian Islands

Holiday on the East Frisian Islands

Three and a half to ten kilometres off the coast of Lower Saxony, the seven East Frisian Islands extend over a length of 90 kilometres. In between lie extensive tidal flats, all of which are part of the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park. Strung together like pearls on a necklace, the islands offer ideal holiday conditions with magnificent landscapes and endless beaches.

TOP excursion destinations on the East Frisian Islands

With an area of six and a half square kilometres, the island of Baltrum is the smallest of the East Frisian islands. It has been a North Sea spa since 1966. The tidal path is a pleasant way to discover the beauty of the car-free island on a hike.

The island of Borkum invites you to leave everyday life behind and explore the largest island on numerous hiking and cycling trails. They lead through forests and heath to kilometres of beaches and dunes. The nostalgic island train, the North Sea Aquarium and the adventure pool Gezeitenland provide variety.

Whether in a beach chair, on the mudflats or in a horse-drawn carriage, the island of Juist offers pure relaxation.
It can be explored in a relaxed manner on long walks and bike tours.
With a bit of luck, you may encounter seals and harbor seals on the large sandbank in the east, and you can learn lots of interesting facts about nature along the Otto Leege Trail.

Pure nature in the change of ebb and flow promises the island Langeoog. The car-free landscape is characterised by wide sandy beaches, dune landscapes and flowering pastures. Nature trails allow you to discover the island and national park on your own. Afterwards, the Thalasso North Sea spa offers relaxing hours.

The island of Norderney also knows how to inspire with its beach, dunes and nature. There is also an urban ambience, historic buildings and a variety of events. Especially recommended: bathing pleasure and relaxation in the Thalasso Centre, a visit to the lighthouse and a cup of coffee in the Marienhöhe pavilion.

A vacation on the island of Wangerooge means beautiful beaches, wellness and relaxation – no matter what time of year. Whether it’s a mudflat hike, a beach chair or an adventure programme, Wangerooge has the right offer for young and old.

Beach, waves and wind – that is Spiekeroog. Away from the hustle and bustle, here you can reflect on yourself and spend a vacation in harmony with nature.
The National Park House provides information about the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site and the bronze statue “De Utkieker” has been gazing out to sea since 2007.
