Both options are a good start to your stay in Sweden.
Do I have to make both journeys on one day with the Sweden Combi Ticket?
No, if you book the combined ticket to Sweden, consisting of Ferry Puttgarden-Rödby + Öresund Bridge or Ferry Puttgarden-Rödby + Ferry Helsingör-Helsingborg or in reverse order, you do not have to travel on both connections in one day. You have a total of 7 days to do this. You only need to choose the day for Ferry Puttgarden-Rödby or Rödby-Puttgarden.
Examples:
- From Germany: Book the combined ticket of Ferry + bridge or Ferry + Ferry. Then you can use the Öresund Bridge or Ferry Helsingör-Helsingborg within 7 days of your ferry crossing from Fehmarn to Rödby.
- From Sweden: Book the combination ticket of bridge + Ferry or Ferry + Ferry. Then you can use the Öresund Bridge or the Ferry Helsingborg-Helsingör within 7 days before using the Ferry from Rödby to Fehmarn.
This gives you the opportunity to discover Denmark on the way there or on the way back from Sweden.
What will happen to the Puttgarden–Rødby ferry service when the Fehmarn Belt Tunnel opens?
While construction work on the Fehmarn Belt Tunnel is underway, ferry service between Puttgarden and Rødby will continue as usual. Therefore, nothing will change for your currently planned ferry trip.
The immersed tunnel, approximately 18 kilometers long, is intended to connect Fehmarn and Lolland via a road and a rail link in the future. Due to delays, the originally planned opening date cannot be met. According to the current planning status, the road connection is to be opened first. The rail connection will follow at a later date. A new binding schedule has not yet been set.
It is still unclear whether the Puttgarden–Rødby Ferry will continue to operate after the road tunnel opens, and if so, to what extent.
Do I need to make a reservation for the Puttgarden–Rödby Ferry?
Advance reservations are not required for the Puttgarden–Rødby Ferry. You can drive to the ferry terminal without a reservation and buy a ticket there for the next available crossing.
It’s still a good idea to book online. That way, you’ll secure a spot on the departure you’ve booked and often get a better price than if you buy your ticket at the port. You should definitely book your ticket in advance, especially during summer vacation, on holidays, and on busy weekends.
Go on a spontaneous trip without a reservation
If you arrive without a reservation, you can buy your ticket at the appropriate lane at the port. You’ll then be taken on the next Ferry with available space. Since the Ferries run regularly, the wait time is usually manageable.
However, we cannot guarantee immediate boarding. If one or more departures are already fully booked, you’ll have to wait for a later Ferry. The especially affordable low-price tickets are also not available at the port terminal.
What are the departure restrictions on the tickets?
The departure restriction depends on the fare you booked.
- The low-price ticket is valid only for the departure selected at the time of booking. Rebooking or refunds are not permitted. For a fee and upon payment of any price difference, a switch to a more flexible fare may be offered.
- The standard ticket is valid for the booked departure as well as for all other available departures on the same calendar day. You may change your reservation to a different travel date for a fee and by paying any price difference that may apply.
- The Flex Ticket offers the greatest flexibility in terms of travel dates. It can be changed or refunded in accordance with the applicable fare conditions without a rebooking fee and includes priority boarding.
- With the Easy Return Ticket, the return trip is not tied to a specific departure. You can take any Ferry with available seating within the specified validity period.
What happens if I miss my booked Ferry?
With a standard ticket, you can take a later Ferry on the same day, provided there are still seats available. The Flex ticket also allows you to switch to a different departure.
With a low-price ticket, this flexibility is not available. Since it’s valid only for the scheduled departure, you should allow plenty of time for your trip to the port. If you’re running late, you’ll need to contact Scandlines customer service at the port to see if a fare upgrade—for a fee—is possible.
Regardless of your fare, you must complete check-in at least 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time. During peak travel season, you should allow for extra time.
