• Coming from Hamburg (south): Ferry north on the A1 to exit 20-Bad-Schwartau. Then follow the B226 to Lübeck-Siems. There the B226 merges into the B75. Just ferry on along the B75 in the direction of Travemünde. The ferry port is well signposted.
• From the direction of Schwerin, Rostock (east): Ferries on the A20 in the direction of Lübeck until exit 2b Lübeck-Süd. There you change to the B207 towards Lübeck. At the Berliner Platz traffic circle, turn left from the B75 towards Travemünde. Follow the B75 for a few kilometers. The ferry port Travemünde is then closed.
• From direction Kiel (North): Ferry south on the B76 towards Lübeck and change to the A1 towards Lübeck as far as exit 19-Sereetz. Then follow the B226 to Lübeck-Siems. There the B226 merges into the B75. Just ferry on along the B75 in the direction of Travemünde. The ferry port is well signposted.

On the route from Travemünde to Trelleborg, only Ferries of the shipping company TT-Line is currently in operation. The route between Germany and Sweden is offered up to four times a day. The 220-kilometer route across the Baltic Sea takes Ferries around eight hours, although the number of crossings can vary depending on the season.

Start at the ferry port Travemünde

With a length of 2,065 meters, the Skandinavienkai in Lübeck-Travemünde is one of the largest ferry ports in Europe. The port has catering, parking and sanitary facilities. From here, the Ferries depart for Sweden, Finland and the Baltic States.

By car, you can take the A1 and the A226 directly to Skandinavienkai. The same applies to the journey by train. From the bus stop Lübeck-Travemünde Skandinavienkai, take the bus directly to the ferry terminal. Alternatively, you can also take bus lines 30 and 40 from Lübeck main station.

For the crossing, you’ll need your booking confirmation or booking number and a valid ID. If you’re traveling with a vehicle, you should also have the vehicle documents on hand. Children also need a valid travel document.

Online check-in is available once your booking has been paid in full. In this case, you’ll typically receive an email from TT-Line 48 hours before departure. Check-in in Travemünde

Check-in in Travemünde usually opens about two hours before departure. It closes 30 minutes before the scheduled departure time. For groups, check-in closes one hour before departure. Be sure to allow extra time, especially during summer vacation, on holidays, and when traveling with a larger vehicle.

If you’re traveling by car, motorcycle, RV, or trailer, follow the signs for TT-Line at the Skandinavienkai. At the blue self-check-in kiosks, scan the barcode on your booking confirmation or enter your booking number. You’ll then receive your boarding pass, cabin key, and any other pre-booked documents. Your boarding pass will indicate the pier and the lane you need to get into.

Pedestrian passengers check in at the TT-Line terminal at Zum Hafenplatz 1. From there, a shuttle bus takes them to the ship. Pedestrian passengers may only be transported for departures and arrivals between 6 a.m. and midnight.

If you’re traveling by bike, you can also use the self-check-in kiosks in the TT-Line lane in Travemünde. You must wear a high-visibility vest when riding through the port area.

Check-in in Trelleborg

In Trelleborg, check-in typically opens about three hours before departure. For travelers with vehicles, check-in closes 30 minutes before departure for trips to Germany.

Whether you’re traveling by car, motorcycle, RV, or trailer, you can check in at the self-check-in kiosks operated by TT-Line AB, located at Norra Nyhamnsgatan 1b, 23161 Trelleborg.

Check-in for pedestrians and cyclists, on the other hand, is located at Trelleborg Central Station on Platform 2 and closes 45 minutes before departure. A shuttle bus will then take you through the port area to the ship. If you’re traveling without a motorized vehicle, be sure to check when booking whether the selected departure carries pedestrians and bicycles.

After check-in

After boarding, park your vehicle in the assigned space and apply the parking brake. Take with you everything you’ll need during the crossing. This includes, in particular, identification documents, medications, valuables, clothing, chargers, and your pet’s supplies. The vehicle deck will be closed during the crossing and cannot be accessed until arrival.

How much does the Ferry from Travemünde to Trelleborg cost?

There is no set price for this crossing. TT-Line currently offers one-way trips under the SMART fare from 59 euros. This is an entry-level price that is not available for every departure or travel arrangement. You’ll only see the final total price after you’ve entered your travel date, passengers, vehicle, and desired additional services.

Therefore, when booking, always provide the actual vehicle dimensions, including all attachments. If the vehicle is booked in a category that is too small, an additional payment may be required at the port. For very large vehicles, it may also be necessary to rebook into a different rate class.

Day ferry or night ferry: Do you need a cabin?

On the Travemünde–Trelleborg route, you can choose between daytime and nighttime departures, depending on the schedule. Which option suits you best depends on your travel plans, your desired level of comfort, and your budget.

On a day cruise, you can enjoy the public areas, restaurants, lounges, and outdoor decks. A cabin is usually not required for these trips. However, it may be worth it if you want some privacy, a good night’s sleep, or are traveling with young children.

Traveling to Sweden by car, RV, trailer, motorcycle, or bicycle

On the Travemünde–Trelleborg route, TT-Line transports cars, motorcycles, RVs, travel trailers, trailers, and bicycles. To ensure the fare is calculated correctly, you must provide as accurate a description of your vehicle as possible when booking.

Taking the RV on the Ferry

Measure your RV before booking, including the bike rack, tow hitch, and any other attachments. A bike rack may cause the total length to fall into a higher price category.

The main valve for the gas supply must remain closed throughout the entire voyage. Gas-powered refrigerators must not be operated on board. Access to the gas tanks must remain unobstructed so that they can be reached in an emergency.

You are not allowed on the vehicle deck during the crossing. Therefore, you cannot spend the night in a motorhome or trailer. For overnight crossings, you’ll need a cabin or a reserved seat.

Traveling by Motorcycle or Bicycle

Motorcycles and bicycles must be secured on the vehicle deck. Follow the crew’s instructions when loading. Securing devices are available for motorcycles. If needed, you can obtain tie-down straps from the staff on the vehicle deck.

Cyclists must wear a high-visibility vest when checking in and while riding through the port area in Travemünde. In Trelleborg, you check in with your bike at the main train station just like a pedestrian passenger and are taken to the ship by shuttle bus.

Taking Your Dog on the Ferry from Travemünde to Trelleborg

Dogs, cats, and other pets are allowed on TT-Line Ferries between Travemünde and Trelleborg. You must declare your pet when you book and select an appropriate accommodation option.

There are special pet cabins for travelers with pets. A maximum of two pets may be brought along per booking and per pet cabin. If you want to travel with more than two pets, you must split the booking accordingly.

Since the number of pet-friendly cabins is limited, you should book early, especially for trips during summer vacation and on holidays. If all pet cabins are fully booked, individual standard cabins may also be made available for pets on certain ships. Additional cleaning and service fees may apply.

Where is your dog allowed on board?

There are dog restrooms on the outdoor decks. Your dog must be kept on a short leash in public areas. Certain dog breeds may be required to wear a muzzle.

Dogs are welcome in designated public areas. Which areas are accessible may vary depending on the ship. This also applies to dog-friendly seating in restaurants and dining areas.

The vehicle deck is not accessible during the crossing. Therefore, make arrangements so that your pet stays with you in the passenger area or in your booked cabin. Be sure to bring water, food, a leash, a muzzle if necessary, and anything else your pet might need during the crossing with you upstairs.

To enter Sweden, your dog generally needs:

Among the ships that are used particularly frequently on this route are the Green Ships Nils Holgersson and Peter Pan, as well as the Robin Hood, Nils Dacke, and Huckleberry Finn. Depending on the schedule, other ships from the TT-Line fleet may also be used.

Which ship is right for you?

The Nils Holgersson and the Peter Pan are the most modern and largest passenger ships on this route. Both Green Ships feature spacious public areas, family-friendly amenities, restaurants, and an outdoor deck measuring approximately 1,200 square meters. They are particularly well-suited for families and travelers who appreciate modern cabins and plenty of space on board. Both ships also offer up to 32 charging stations for electric cars.

The sister ships Robin Hood and Nils Dacke, which are identical in design, each have 163 cabins. On board, there is, among other things, a cafeteria, a shop, and a sauna area. The “Nils Dacke” also offers Pullman chairs as an affordable alternative to a cabin.

The “Huckleberry Finn” is designed to accommodate up to 400 passengers. In addition to interior and exterior cabins, it features a restaurant, a lounge and bar area, a shop, and a play area for children.

The specific departure is always the deciding factor. The amenities, cabin categories, and available add-ons vary by ship. If you need a pet-friendly cabin, an accessible cabin, or a charging station for your electric car, you should check availability directly during the booking process and reserve the desired service.

Travemünde–Trelleborg, Travemünde–Malmö, or Rostock–Trelleborg?

There are several direct ferry routes to choose from for the trip from Germany to southern Sweden. The best route depends on your departure point in Germany, your destination in Sweden, and your preferred travel time.

Travemünde–Trelleborg

This route is a good option if Travemünde is easily accessible for you and you want to travel to Trelleborg, Ystad, or the southern part of Skåne—or further on toward southeastern Sweden. Thanks to the variety of day and night departures, you can plan your trip flexibly.

Travemünde-Malmö

The Finnlines ferry takes you directly to Malmö. This saves you the trip from Trelleborg to Malmö after you arrive. The route is also ideal for trips to Lund, Helsingborg, Copenhagen, or Gothenburg.

A cabin is required for evening and nighttime departures. You must also book a cabin if you are traveling with a pet.

Rostock–Trelleborg

The Rostock–Trelleborg route has the shorter crossing time. It’s a particularly good option if you’re traveling from Berlin, Brandenburg, Saxony, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, or eastern Germany. You can choose between two shipping companies: TT-Line and Stena Line.

Which connection is the cheapest?

Don’t just compare ferry fares. Also consider the distance to the departure port, fuel costs, the cost of a cabin if needed, and the distance from the Swedish destination port.

If Travemünde is significantly closer to you, the slightly longer ferry ride may be cheaper than traveling to Rostock. If you want to go directly to Malmö or on to Denmark, the Travemünde–Malmö route will help you avoid driving extra kilometers on Swedish roads.
