Shipping company Meine Ferry discontinues the Norddeich-Norderney Ferries service
Bad news for travelers on the North Sea: the shipping company “Meine Ferry GmbH” is discontinuing its Ferries service between Norddeich and Norderney. Following a failed investor process, the connection will finally be discontinued at the beginning of May 2026.
No investors found
The search for new investors has come to nothing. The provisional insolvency administrator Dr. Hans-Joachim Berner explained that despite intensive discussions, there was no viable solution for the continuation of the shipping company Meine Ferries.
The economic situation was tense. Although the Ferries were well utilized, rising costs further exacerbated the situation. In the end, it was clear that operations could not be continued.
Last trips at the beginning of May
The ferry “Meine Ferry 1” will continue to run as planned over the long weekend around May 1st. After that, it’s over.
The last regular crossing will take place on May 3, 2026 at 18:30 from Norderney to Norddeich.
For many commuters, vacationers and locals, this means the end of an additional connection that was only launched a few years ago.
What happens to booked tickets?
If you have already booked tickets, you can have them refunded. The shipping company provides information on this on its website:
The process will continue over the coming weeks. Affected passengers should check their bookings and inform themselves in good time.
Settlement of the shipping company is underway
The company will be wound up in an orderly manner after it ceases operations. This includes the sale of the Ferries and other assets.
Around 20 employees are to be supported in their transition to new jobs. Salaries are secured until the end of May 2026.
Great disappointment among operators
The shareholders are disappointed about the end:
“Our aim was to create an additional link between Norddeich and Norderney and to strengthen the region. There was a lot of support from the local population. This makes this step all the more difficult for us.”
The employees who helped set up the ferry service are particularly affected.
Background to the insolvency
The shipping company had already filed for insolvency on March 5, 2026. Since then, operations have continued for the time being. At the same time, investors were sought and talks were held with other shipping companies.
However, these talks failed to produce any results. This brings the “My Ferries” project to an end after around two years of operation.
What does this mean for travelers?
With the end of the connection, an alternative on the Norddeich-Norderney route is no longer available. In future, travelers will have to switch to other providers.
This could lead to higher capacity utilization and less flexibility, especially in the peak season.
