The DFDS shipping company introduces itself
A true visionary was to become the founder of Det Forenede Dampskibs-Salskab – The United Steamship Company – in 1866. The industrialist C. F. Tietgen had recognized the signs of the times and relied on steamships, which were larger, more reliable, faster and far more effective than the sailing ships of the time.
His idea was a merger of several Northern European ferry companies in order to be able to compete on the world market. With success, because 150 years later the shipping company is still considered one of the oldest and most successful companies in Denmark. The company is headquartered in Copenhagen. In 2019, the company was once again able to celebrate the World’s Leading Ferry Operator award – for the ninth time in a row. Every year, the more than 50 ships in the fleet take around six million passengers safely and reliably to their destinations.

Relaxation and maritime experience
The company attaches particular importance to ensuring that all passengers arrive relaxed and rested at their desired destination. All ships are spacious and modernly equipped. Depending on the route, duration and ship, the offer may vary accordingly. During your 90-minute crossing from Calais to Dover, you can look forward to an on-board shop, various restaurants and cafés. Even childcare has been thought of. If you choose an overnight connection, you can expect excellent restaurants, a wide range of entertainment and leisure activities as well as a comfortably equipped cabin. Professional entertainers, Kids Club, special play areas and child-friendly meals ensure that even young passengers can enjoy the crossing in good spirits. After exclusive dining or international cuisine at the all-you-can-eat restaurant, spend your evening enjoying live music, late-night parties, shopping, roulette or a trip to the movies. Whether single, double or multi-bed cabins with up to five berths, whether inside or outside cabins, whether standard or luxury: at DFDS everyone will find the cabin that suits them best. On request, generously sized cabins ensure accessibility. Those traveling with dogs will appreciate the extra pet-friendly cabins with vinyl flooring.

At just 90 minutes, the Calais-Dover route is the shortest connection to England, with 30 crossings offered per day. You can experience two major European cities on the Copenhagen-Oslo route, while the Baltic States await you on your journey from Kiel to Klaipėda in Lithuania.
