- Helgoland Airport (HGL): There are regular flight connections to Helgoland Airport from various German cities. The ferry port is just a few minutes’ walk from the airport.
Additional information
No cars are allowed on Heligoland, and the island can be easily explored on foot or by bike.
From the main residential area, it is only a few minutes’ walk to the Südkaje ferry terminal.
Itinerary
The ferry connection between Heligoland and the island of Düne is operated by the municipality of Heligoland and runs several times a day. The crossing takes approx. 10 minutes and covers a distance of approx. 2 km. The Ferry operates all year round.
Check-in & departure at the ports
The Ferry can be boarded at two different locations on Heligoland: in good weather at the jetty (fair weather harbor) and in bad weather in the northeast harbor (bad weather harbor). Please note the current notices for the respective departure point. Check-in is possible until shortly before departure. Tickets can be purchased directly at the ferry office on the quay or at the ticket counter.
On board the Ferry
The crossing takes place on the Ferry “Witte Kliff”, a small catamaran. Seating on board is limited. In stormy weather, the crossing can be a little choppy. The ferries offer a unique view of the two islands.
Arrival at the ports
After the short crossing, you will reach the other island. Once you arrive on the dune, you can enjoy the fine sandy beach or watch seals and grey seals. Your ticket is also valid for the return trip to Heligoland.
