Christening of the new GNV VIRGO in Palermo
A new fleet member for the Mediterranean
The Italian shipping company Grandi Navi Veloci (GNV) is facing a special event today: the newest ship in the fleet, the GNV VIRGO, is being christened in a ceremony in Palermo. Even before the ceremony begins, it’s worth taking a look at what you can expect from this modern newbuilding.
Modern RoPax Ferries with a focus on comfort and efficiency
The GNV VIRGO belongs to the latest generation of RoPax ships and was developed for the combined transportation of passengers, vehicles and freight. On board you will find spacious cabins, modern lounge areas, restaurants, stores and plenty of space to relax.
The ship also sets technical standards: energy-efficient drive systems, an optimized hull shape and a focus on lower emissions are important steps towards more sustainable ferry shipping.
The main area of operation is the Genoa-Palermo route
After the christening, the “GNV VIRGO” will primarily be used on the popular Genoa-Palermo ferry route. This connection is one of the most important in Italian ferry traffic and benefits in particular from the higher capacity and increased comfort of the new construction. For you, this means a modern, reliable and more pleasant crossing between northern Italy and Sicily.
Christening in the port of Palermo
The official naming ceremony will take place later today in the port of Palermo – traditionally with the godmother, blessing and the symbolic breaking of the champagne bottle on the bow. Only then will the “GNV VIRGO” officially join the GNV fleet and be prepared for its regular liner service.
