Samsø Shipping Company (Samsø Rederi)
The Samsö shipping company is a subsidiary of Danske Færgen A/S, now Molslinjen, a Danish shipping company based in Svendborg. As Denmark’s first Ferry, the Prinsesse Isabella can run on both diesel and liquefied natural gas (LNG). An important step towards sustainable energy use. The long-term goal is to create a Ferry that transports its passengers in a completely climate-neutral way. The project is being driven by the decision that the entire island of Samsö wants to completely dispense with the use of fossil fuels by 2030.
Major Samsö ferry routes
The two ferries of the shipping company connect the ports of Hou and Aarhus on Jutland with Sælvig on the island of Samsö.
The ferry connection Hou – Sælvig
The route is driven by the Prinsesse Isabella. Departures take place several times a day. The Ferry offers enough space for 600 passengers and 160 cars. The crossing takes one hour. Enough time for a cup of coffee, a small snack or the dish of the day. Free internet is available on board. There is a cosy playroom for small passengers, and a nappy-changing room and high chairs are also available on board. People with limited mobility can travel comfortably and without worry thanks to the lift, designated wheelchair spaces and disabled WC. Passengers with pets should note that they must be accommodated in appropriate transport cages. Dogs must be kept on a leash on board.
The ferry connection Aarhus – Sælvig
The Lilleøre fast ferry will operate on this route for the first time from April 2021. It can carry up to 300 passengers and 75 bicycles. Drinks, snacks and meals are available during the crossing. Internet use is also free of charge on this route. Special places are provided for people with disabilities. Pets are welcome on board in suitable transport cages, dogs must be kept on a lead throughout the crossing.
