The shipping company P&O Ferries
The British shipping company P&O Ferries was founded in 2002. However, the company’s origins date back to 1837, when the Peninsular & OrientalSteam Navigation Company was founded. The company is headquartered in Dover, with ferry connections from the UK to Ireland, France, Belgium and the Netherlands. Today, the company is regarded as a leader in the UK, taking up to nine million passengers safely to their destinations each year.

The facilities on the ships vary depending on the route, duration of the journey and size. On the short route from Calais to Dover, for example, you can expect a brasserie, a food court, a Starbucks café and a bar. In the Duty Free Shop you will find a wide range of products such as fragrances, cosmetics, spirits and technical equipment. And at reasonable prices. A varied children’s program provides entertainment during the summer months with a kids’ club, craft courses, games and a video room. On the longest stretch from Zeebrugge to Hull, the gastronomic offer is supplemented by a buffet restaurant. On the night crossings a show bar with live music and disco provides pleasant entertainment. If you wish, you can retire to your comfortable cabin. It is included in the ticket price on this route. Whether Standard, Premier or Club cabin – everyone will find the right place to sleep here. A limited number of barrier-free cabins are also available. Pets are also welcome on board, but must remain in a kennel throughout the crossing. This is checked by staff every two hours, visits are possible.
Major P&O Ferries ferry routes
20 ships are in service on the shipping company’s five routes. The Calais – Dover route is both the most popular and the fastest at 1 hour 30 minutes. Up to 20 crossings take place daily. For the routes Rotterdam Europoort – Hull and Zeebrugge – Hull you have to calculate 11 and 13 hours respectively. The Dublin – Liverpool route takes 7.5 hours, the one from Larne to Cairnryan only two.
