You have various options for getting to the Sassnitz-Mukran ferry port:
Arrival by car, motorcycle, motorhome
- Coming from Berlin or Hamburg , follow the A20 highway in a north-easterly direction. Take exit 24 towards Stralsund/Rügen/Sassnitz and continue your journey over the Rügen Bridge on the B96 towards Sassnitz. In Sassnitz, follow the signs to the port of Sassnitz-Mukran and the jetty of Bornholmslinjen.
- If you are already on the island of Rügen, take the B196 from Bergen towards Sassnitz, for example. In Sassnitz, follow the signs to the port of Sassnitz-Mukran.
Arrival by public transport (bus & train)
You can also reach the Sassnitz-Mukran ferry port by public transport. For example, you can travel by train to Stralsund and then take a train connection to Sassnitz. In Sassnitz you can then take line 22 of the VVR (Verkehrsgesellschaft Vorpommern-Rügen mbH) to the Mukran Fährhafen stop. From there, it is just 200 meters to the ferry terminal.
From May to October, a direct train (RE27) connects the ferry port of Sassnitz with Bergen station on Rügen twice a day every Saturday and Sunday. The shuttle train allows you to travel from major German cities to Rønne on the island of Bornholm (Denmark) and vice versa.

Arrival by car
- From the direction of Malmö (north): Ferry south on the E6/E22. Follow the signs to Trelleborg. Once in Trelleborg, follow the signs to the ferry port (Travemündeallén).

Trelleborg can be reached by train from larger cities such as Malmö. The ferry terminal is just a few minutes’ walk from Trelleborg railroad station.

- Malmö Airport (MMX): The nearest airport is Malmö. From there, you can travel to Trelleborg by bus, train or cab.
- Copenhagen Airport (CPH): From Copenhagen you can take the train over the Öresund Bridge to Malmö and from there on to Trelleborg.
Itinerary
The Sassnitz-Trelleborg Royal Line is one of the oldest ferry connections in Germany and is now being revived by the shipping company FRS Baltic, which currently operates the Ferry Sassnitz-Ystad. The new Royal Line started in April 2023 and will once again be the fastest ferry connection between Germany and Sweden . In only 2.5 hours you can reach the Swedish mainland. The departure begins at the port of Mukran in Sassnitz on the island of Rügen.
The Ferry from Sassnitz to Trelleborg is offered seasonally by the shipping company FRS. With a crossing time of 2 hours and 30 minutes, it is considered the fastest connection between Germany and Sweden. Up to two departures a day will take place during the season between the end of March and the beginning of November 2024. In July and August, discounted night trips are available on selected weekends. You can book from November.

Thanks to the best signposting, the ferry port Sassnitz-Mukran is easily accessible by car from Stralsund via the B96 and the E251. Alternatively, there are connections by train, bus and cab from Sassnitz train station. The distance between the train station and the ferry terminal is around six kilometers, please enquire in advance about direct connections and seasonal departure times.
