Tunisia’s capital Tunis invites you on a journey into the past. In the historic Medina quarter, oriental palaces, mosques, mausoleums, souks and fountains are fascinating. The district has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979 and offers visitors interested in culture around 700 monuments.
With Carthage you will visit the most important Roman metropolis in Africa. Although already destroyed in the 7th century, the size of the former city can still be guessed today. Ancient witnesses of time are the amphitheatre, the Antonius-Pius-Therme and the Roman villas with their artistic mosaics and fountains.
Once gladiator fights took place in the ancient El Djem amphitheatre. It is nearly as big as the Colosseum in Rome. Whoever enters this impressive place today can almost feel how 35,000 spectators once cheered on the fighters here.
The port city of Sousse delights its visitors with its imposing appearance. Its old town dates back to the 9th century and is surrounded by a city wall. The fortress towers mightily above everything. The harbour and the promenade also invite you to take a stroll.

Entry requirements
German nationals can enter Tunisia with a passport, identity card and children’s passport. All documents must be valid for at least six months upon entry. However, the presentation of an identity card is only sufficient for package tours and travel by air.
Alternative travel options
Theoretically, it is possible to arrive by car, train or bus. However, the routes are long and transit often depends on the current political situation. It is faster and safer to travel by plane.
