The image of the island capital Palma is determined by the mighty cathedral. Also the Castell de Bellver and the royal palace La Almudaina are not less imposing. A stroll through the winding alleys of the old town or through the markets with their many colours and different smells promises special impressions.
The landmark of the island is the cathedral La Seu, built in gothic style. A whole 400 years went by before it was completed. Particularly worth seeing are its entrance portals, the main altar and the magnificent rose window.
The Castell de Bellver has a special feature that is unique in Europe: It is round! It combines Romanesque and Gothic style elements and is as monumental as it is beautiful, making it well worth a visit.
The Palma Aquarium is dedicated to research and species conservation. It informs about the oceans and their inhabitants. Here, sharks, sea turtles and rays can be admired in all their beauty in breathtaking pools.
By visiting Alcúdia, you’re choosing a lively resort with a white sandy beach and turquoise waters. The old town with its well-preserved city wall is also beautiful. It once protected the city from attacks by pirates. Between the city center and the harbor you will find a Roman excavation site with a forum, theater and residential area.
Surrounded by mountains lies the small village of Valldemossa. Once the Mallorcan kings built their summer residence here and Carthusian monks founded their royal monastic community.
The monastery of Lluc is considered the spiritual centre of Mallorca. The place of pilgrimage is one of the most popular sights on the island.
If you visit the Dragon Caves, you can take a boat ride on the largest underground lake in Europe. The cave system stretches over a length of 1,700 meters and impresses with its impressive stalactites. A dragon is said to have once guarded valuable treasures here…
Those who like hiking will find ideal conditions in the Serra de Tramuntana. The mountain range stretches over 90 kilometres and offers numerous hiking trails. At 1,143 metres, Puig Major is the highest peak on the island.
At Cap Formentor, visitors stand at the northernmost point of Mallorca. A headland juts out here far into the sea. Numerous serpentines lead up to the lighthouse and promise magnificent views.
