Kupang in West Timor and the province of East Nusa Tenggara is considered a lively port and important trading center. Despite its importance as a transportation hub, with good connections by plane and Ferry, Kupang is not considered a primary tourist destination. However, the city offers a decent selection of accommodation to suit all budgets and some fantastic Indonesian restaurants. Particularly appealing are the surrounding beaches and caves which, despite their beauty, attract fewer visitors, making for a more authentic experience. Kupang’s history is characterized by colonial conflicts and a mix of European and indigenous influences, which is still reflected in its cultural diversity today.
