New Ferry from Cyprus to Greece started service on Sunday
The first car and passenger ferry to connect Cyprus and Greece in 22 years departed from the port of Limassol on Sunday (June 19, 2022) on its first ferry trip to Piraeus. The fully renovated Ferry Daleela is operated by Scandro Holding, which was founded in 2022 with the aim of connecting Cyprus and Greece by sea.
The ship can carry 400 passengers.
The Daleela will sail from Limassol to Piraeus every Wednesday and Sunday, while the ferries will depart from Piraeus to Limassol every Tuesday and Friday. The last ferry this year will sail from Piraeus to Limassol on September 16.
Crossing takes about 30 hours
Cyprus Deputy Minister of Shipping Vassilios Demetriades recently stated:
“The resumption of the ferry service will help us to further develop our relations with the rest of the Mediterranean and we welcome the opportunity to extend the ferry service to a third neighboring country in addition to Greece.”
The crossing between Cyprus and mainland Greece will take around 30 hours. The Greek capital Athens is also very easy to reach from the port of Piraeus.

Expansion of the ferry connection to Israel
The Israeli authorities have also expressed their interest in the proposed new ferry connection between Greece and Cyprus and have stated that they would like to include an Israeli port in the route.
A meeting between Cyprus Deputy Shipping Minister Vassilis Demetriades and Israeli Transport Minister Merav Michaeli in December 2021 discussed this prospect.
They agreed that the establishment of the sea route would even create a new market for those travelers who prefer to explore the Mediterranean by sea, as some people are either unable to fly for health reasons or are afraid of flying.
