New ferry connection between Eemshaven and Arendal from 2027

Njordic Ferry Lines launches new ferry service from Holland to Norway

The Dutch shipping company Njordic Ferry Lines B.V. is planning a new ferry connection between Eemshaven in the Netherlands and Arendal in Norway from 2027. It will replace the previous Holland Norway Line route, which was only in operation for two years. In contrast to the old ferry service to Kristiansand, the new route is to be operated daily and offer a reliable alternative for passengers and freight transport in the long term.

Daily crossings on modern ships

Two modern Ferries are planned, offering space for 1,200 passengers, 300 cars and around 2,000 loading meters of freight. The crossing is expected to take 18 hours, making it a time-saving alternative for transporting goods to Scandinavia by avoiding traffic jams in Denmark and northern Germany.

Investments in the port of Arendal

The port of Arendal is making intensive preparations for the new connection. A new RoRo ramp is being built in Eydehavn, around 10 kilometers north of the city center, which should be completed by 2025. In addition, new parking lots and customs clearance facilities are being created to ensure smooth ferry operations.

Benefits for the economy and tourism

According to port director Rune Hvass, the new connection is not only attractive for freight traffic, but also for tourists from the Netherlands. Arendal is closer to Oslo and the Norwegian ski resorts, which makes the route particularly interesting for travelers.

Sustainable transport solution

The project supports Norway’s goal of shifting more traffic from road to ship and rail. This could reduce CO₂ emissions in the long term and strengthen Norwegian trade.

The new route will create a promising ferry connection between the Netherlands and Norway, opening up new opportunities for both passengers and freight traffic.
