The shipping company TESO
The history of Texels Eigen Stoomboot Onderneming– TESO for short – began in 1907 on the initiative of doctor Adriaan Wagemaker. He and other islanders expressed dissatisfaction with the ferry service that existed until then. The quality of the ships and the low number of crossings were criticized, as were the prices. Without further ado, the Texelans raised money and founded their own ferry line. This was so successful that it quickly outperformed the competition. To date, the capacity of Ferries has been steadily increased and the ships adapted to modern standards. The head office of the shipping company is Den Hoorn.
Comfort, service and sustainability
The Texelstroom and the Dokter Wagemaker are two Ferries in service on the route to the island of Texel. They offer space for up to 1,750 passengers and 340 vehicles. In the salon you can enjoy the view of the sea with a good cup of coffee and snacks. A buffet offers a selection of local drinks and food. The salon deck holds beautiful souvenirs ranging from Texel treats to postcards and specialty beers. Elevators are available for travelers with limited mobility. Dogs are welcome both at Ferry and on the island of Texel.
Major TESO ferry routes
The shipping company’s Ferries connects the Dutch mainland with the island of Texel all year round. The trip across the Marsdiep strait from Den Helder to the island of Texel takes about 20 minutes. There are hourly departures between 6:00 am and 9:30 pm. During the high season, the Ferries even leave the port every 30 minutes. Please enquire in advance about possible later departures on public holidays and weekends.
