How to reach the Texel ferry port on the island of Texel by car:
- From Den Burg: Follow the Pontweg (N501) south to the ferry port.
- From De Koog: Drive south on the Pontweg (N501) to the ferry port.
- From Oudeschild: Follow the Pontweg (N501) north to the ferry port.
Arrival by bus & train
There are regular bus connections from the Texel ferry port to various places on the island. The nearest train station is in Den Helder, from where there are regular buses to the ferry port. From there you can travel to Texel with Ferry.
Arrival by plane
Texel does not have its own airport. The nearest airport is Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. From there, you can take the train or car to Den Helder and then take the Ferry to Texel.

Throughout the year there is regular ferry service between the mainland port of Den Helder and the island of Texel. The duration of the crossing is comparatively short at 20 minutes. Cars are allowed on Texel and can be transported using Ferry. In addition, there is a daily connection for pedestrians from Texel to the neighboring island of Vlieland during the high season.

The places of the island offer peace and idyll. Den Burg invites you to take a leisurely stroll through the city, the fishing village of Oosterend enchants with its small houses, and in Den Hoorn the church with its white tower is a pretty sight – especially in spring, when it is surrounded by blooming daffodils and tulips. Buildings worth seeing include the windmill in the Oudeschild Open Air Museum and the red lighthouse. The latter can be climbed and promises a magnificent panoramic view of the island from a height of 45 meters.
If you want to spend an active vacation, you can look forward to 30 kilometers of sandy beach, 140 kilometers of cycle paths and hikes through the Wadden Sea. Nature lovers will experience a special nature experience in the dunes in the national parks de Slufter and De Muy.
One of the most beautiful sights of Texel is undoubtedly the island’s typical wildlife. Sheep graze all over the island and seals frolic on the offshore sandbanks. They can be discovered during a boat tour. The Ecomare provides information about the endangered habitat of the Wadden Sea and cares for injured animals; seals and porpoises live in the outdoor pools.
Entry requirements
EU citizens enter Texel in Holland with a valid identity card, passport and children’s passport. A visa is not required.
