DFDS to take over ferry services to the island of Jersey from 2025
New ferry operator on the Channel Island of Jersey
DFDS is expected to take over ferry operations between Jersey, England and France from March 28, 2025. The company has been selected as preferred bidder for a 15-year contract covering both freight and passenger services. This decision strengthens DFDS’ position as the leading ferry operator in Europe.
Top priority: reliability and service
Filip Hermann, Vice President of DFDS, said: “We are delighted to be taking over the ferry services to Jersey. A reliable ferry service is vital for the island’s economy, supplies and medical access. We are proud to support the local community.
DFDS will work closely with local authorities, ports and communities to ensure a smooth transition and optimize the service to meet the needs of residents and visitors.
Improvements for passengers
There will be numerous advantages for passengers:
- Higher ferry frequency at peak times
- Faster connections to Great Britain
- Three new ferries in the next six years
- Two fast ferries especially for the summer
- Connections to Poole, Portsmouth and St. Malo
The timetable for 2025 will be published at the end of next week so that travelers can plan their journeys well in advance.
Future-oriented fleet
DFDS plans to deploy modern and efficient ships to improve comfort and the travel experience. This also includes new high-speed ferries, which will ensure shorter crossing times, especially in the summer months.
DFDS will operate these routes from 2025
DFDS will take over the following routes to the Channel Islands from March 2025:
The following ferries are used on the routes:
- Fast ferry TARIFA JET – 700 passengers and 150 cars
- Fast ferry LEVANTE JET – 675 passengers and 151 cars
- Car ferry STENA VINGA – 60 cabins, 400 passengers and 200 cars
