The Cassen Eils shipping company
The shipping company was founded in 1952. Captain Cassen Eils and his partner Ludwig Visser were the first shipping company to operate scheduled services to and from Heligoland after the war. Cassen Eils is still the oldest active Helgoland shipping company. Even though it has been integrated into the “EMS” AG group as a subsidiary since 2010, it has been able to retain its independence. The company is based in Cuxhaven. The company is committed to protecting nature and offers environmentally friendly crossings to Heligoland. The LNG ship MS Helgoland was awarded the Blue Angel environmental seal in 2018.
To Heligoland all year round
The ships of the shipping company offer space for between 799 and 1,040 passengers. All ferries have a gastronomic offer. In addition to fresh snacks and drinks, travellers can choose from six different breakfast variations. Depending on the equipment, the ferries have a panoramic deck and a children’s area. Access to the MS Helgoland is barrier-free via a gangway, and a glass lift gives passengers with restricted mobility access to all passenger decks. The shipping company asks that you inform them of your request for assistance by telephone at least 24 hours before departure. With a valid ticket and leashed, dogs are welcome on board.
Important Cassen Eils ferry routes
The ferries to Heligoland depart from Cuxhaven (approx. 2.5 hours), Büsum (approx. 2.5 hours), Bremerhaven (approx. 3 hours) and Wilhelmshaven/Hooksiel (approx. 2 hours). During the winter months the MS Funny Girl is the only ship connecting Helgoland with the mainland. The shipping company also offers connections to the island of Neuwerk from Cuxhaven from April to October (approx. 1.5 hours).
From July 2021, the catamaran MS Nordlicht II will support the fleet with the latest technology and reduce the travel time from Cuxhaven to Helgoland to just around 1 hour.
